professor Oleksandra Oleshchuk

MD, PhD, DSc

In 1994 she graduated from Ternopil State Medical University and got enrolled in post-graduate school at the Pharmacology department. She defended scientific thesis on "Experimental therapy by enterosorbents of cholestatic damage of liver" in 1997, then worked as an assistant and associate-professor (since 2005) of Pharmacology department. In 2013 she got the Doctor of Science degree (thesis "Role of nitric oxide in the pathogenesis of different genesis liver injures"). Since 15th of February 2014 she is an honourable professor and Head of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department.

From 2001 Oleksandra Oleshchuk is a Member of the Ternopil Regional Department of the State Expert Center of Ministry of Health of Ukraine responsible for pharmacovigilance.

She is the author and co-author of more than 200 educational and scientific publications.

Scientific interests: nitric oxide modulators, role of nitric oxide in the pathogenesis of liver disease, pharmacogenetics features of action of drugs, drug safety.

Professor Kateryna Posokhova,

MD, PhD, DSc,

Director of the M.P. Skakun Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical Biochemistry

In 1973 she graduated from the Ternopil Medical Institute. During two years she worked as a doctor-therapist. On The Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology she working from 1975 as a laboratory assistant (1975-1980), as an assistant (1980-1985), as an associate professor (1986-1992), as a head of the department (1992- 2014,) and as a director of M.P. Skakun Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical Biochemistry and professor of this Department (since 2014). Kateryna Posokhova worked as a dean of the Medical Faculty in TSMU in different years.

Over the past 20 years, Kataryna Posokhova is the head of the Ternopil Regional Department of State Expert Center of MH of Ukraine.

She is the author and co-author of 6 textbooks on pharmacology, 7 textbooks and manuals, 10 methodical recommendations for students of different faculties, over 350 scientific publications, including 2 monographs, 7 patents. Prof. K. Posokhova was supervisor of 14 PhDs and one scientific consultant of doctorate.

Scientific interests - the study of problem of using of antibiotics, the establishment of features of pathogenesis of damage of the internal organs in various pathological processes (acute and chronic hepatitis, diabetes type 1 and 2, hypoxia, ischemia- reperfusion myocardial dystrophy, acute peritonitis, acute pancreatitis, antiphospholipid syndrome), in particular, the role of nitric oxide, microsomal enzyme system and correction capabilities, prevention and correction of adverse effects of drugs, including anti-TB and antiretrovirals and acetaminophen.

Associate-Professor Iryna Moseychuk,

MD, PhD

In 1983 she graduated from the Ternopil State Institute. From 1985 Iryna Moseychuk working in the Ternopil State Medical University. In 1988 she got PhD degree (thesis Hepatotropic properties and efficiency of plant flavonoids in acute and chronic liver disease" was defended in the Specialized Academic Council of the Kyiv Research Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of USSR Ministry of Health.

From 2007 to the present she is an associate- professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology. She is the author and co-author of 42 scientific and educational publications and 1 monograph, 2 virtual applications.

Scientific interests: hepatotropic properties of plant flavonoids, pharmacoeconomic study of pharmacotherapy.

Associate-Professor Viktor Pyda,

PhD

In 2006 he graduated from the pharmaceutical faculty of Ternopil State Medical University and received a Diploma with honors, in 2007 he graduated from the magistracy in the specialty "Clinical Pharmacy" and received a master's degree with honors.

From September 2006 to June 2007 Viktor Pyda worked as an assistant of the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany in Ternopil State Medical University. During 2007 - 2009 years - the assistant of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. From September 2009 till present he works at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department at first as an assistant, and from April 2013 – as an associate professor.

In January 2012, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, specialty 14.03.05 - Pharmacology (supervisor prof. Fira L.).

He is the author and co-author of about 45 educational and scientific publications. Research interests - toxic liver damage, a way to correct these disorders, the study hepatoprotectors natural and synthetic origin, creating drugs based on medicinal plants.

Associate-Professor Oksana Shevchuk,

MD, PhD

O. Shevchuk has been a Department member since 2006. She graduated from Ternopil State Medical Academy in 2004 like a Physician (specialist) and Magister on “Therapy” (2005). From 2008 till 2011 years she achieved Ph.D. with thesis “Pharmacological correction of liver damage in case of combined usage of antituberculosis and antiretroviral drugs with Glutargin and Enterosgel (experimental study)”. Thesis was defended in “Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine”. Research supervisor – Professor Kateryna A. Posokhova.

O. Shevchuk is an author of more than 60 papers. Research interests lie in the area of prevention andcorrection of side effects of antituberculosis, antiretroviral and antineoplastic drugs. In recent years,they have focused on better techniques for protection of bone marrow during chemotherapy usinginnovative sorption technologies in collaboration with researchers in several other disciplines.

Associate-Professor Valentyna Chernyashova,

PhD

In 1999 she graduated from the Ternopil State Medical Academy. Since 2006 Valentyna Chernyashova worked as an assistant of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department in Ternopil State Medical University.

In 2012 she defended thesis: "Pathogenetic ground for application of L-arginine-L-glutamate and superoxide dismutase medication for correction of liver disease and kidney in experimental peritonitis" (supervisor - prof. K. Posokhova).

Since April 2013 Valentyna Chernyashova is responsible for methodical supplying of studies at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department.

She is the author and co-author of 40 scientific and educational publications.

Research interests - the role of nitric oxide system in the mechanisms of liver disease and kidney diseasein experimental peritonitis.

Associate-Professor Alina Volska,

PhD

Alina Volska works at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department from December 2008.

In 2007 she graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Ternopil State Medical University in specialty "Clinical Pharmacy". In 2008 she got a master's degree in clinical pharmacy.

In 2014 she defended thesis for the degree of candidate of Biological Sciences (specialty 14.03.05 – Pharmacology) on topic: "Experimental rationale of prevention of hepatotoxic action of paracetamol by Thiotriazolin" (supervisor - prof. K. Posokhova) in Odessa National Medical University.She is the author and co-author of more than 40 teaching and scientific publications.

Scientific interests - prevention and correction of side effects of NSAIDs.

Assistant-Professor Mariana Lukanyuk,

PhD

In 2009 she graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy Ternopil State Medical University in specialty "Clinical Pharmacy". In 2010 she received a master's degree in clinical pharmacy.

From September 2009 to September 2013 Mariana Lukanyuk worked as a senior laboratory of the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany in Ternopil State Medical University.

During 2013 - 2015 – as an assistant professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany. From July 2015 to the present works as an assistant professor at the Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department.

In 2014 she defended her thesis on "Pharmacognostic research plants of Tilia» (supervisor prof. S. Marchyshyn ), specialty 15.00.02 - pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy.

She is the author and co-author of 33 scientific works, including 1 manual, 1 monograph, 3 patents.

Khrystina Kurylo

In 2013 she graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Ternopil State Medical University. In 2014 she received a master's degree in pharmacy.

Khrystina Kurylo works as a senior laboratory of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department since 2014.

She performs thesis on topic: "Studies of specific hypoglycemic activity based on Galega officinalis L." (Supervisor - prof. I. Klishch ).

She is the author and co-author of about 10 scientific papers.

Professor Volodymyr Shmanko,

MD, PhD, DSc

Volodymyr Shmanko works at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department from 1982.

In 1979 he graduated from the Ternopil State Medical Institute, specialty "Medicine". 1979-1980 - Internship.

In 1987 he defended his thesis "Functional and biochemical characterization of liver lesions by acetaminophen and isoniazid and their experimental pharmacotherapy" specialty - Pharmacology.

In 1996 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Prevention and pharmacotherapy of selenium contain compounds in experimental liver disease" specialty - Pharmacology.

He the author and co-author of over 200 scientific and educational works, including 2 monographs, 5 patents. Volodymyr Shmanko trained 4 PhDs and 3 masters.

Research interests - clinical efficacy of antihypertensive agents, chondroprotectors, antibiotics, immunomodulators, hepatoprotectors, products for relief of pain in various diseases.

Professor Viktor Meretskyy,

MD, PhD, DSc

Viktor Meretskyy works at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department from 2006.

In 1998 he graduated from the Ternopil State Medical Academy, specialty "Medicine". 1998-2000 - Internship in specialty "orthopedics and traumatology." In 2003 he graduated from graduate school.

Viktor Meretskyy is the candidate of Medical Sciences since 2003. Topic of the thesis "Growth and formation of bones and the correction of secondary osteoporosis."

He got a degree Doctor of Science in Medicine in 2014 with thesis "Pathogenesis of experimental traumatic brain injury combined with streptozotocin-induced diabetes."

He is the author of over 70 scientific works, including 1 manual, 4 patents.

Research interests - the pathophysiological mechanisms of injury in traumatic disease.

Assistant-Professor Serhiy Malanchuk,

MD, PhD

Serhiy Malanchuk works at Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department from 1998.

In 1993 he graduated from the Ternopil State Medical Institute in specialty "Medicine". In 1993-1995 - Internship in specialty "Therapy".

He got a PhD degree in 1997, specialty 04.00.27 - Surgery. Topic of the thesis "Optimization of endoscopic methods for estimation posttraumatic states."

He is the author of over 45 scientific works, including 1 textbook.

Research interests - comorbid conditions in the clinic of internal diseases: predictors of diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Modern aspects of pain relief of various etiologies. Current approaches to the treatment of NSAID – gastropathy, performance criterion.

THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS

At the Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department highly qualified teachers provide a high level of teaching education for students of:

    • Faculty of Medicine

    • Faculty of Pharmacy

    • Faculty of Dentistry

    • Foreign Students’ Faculty

    • Institute of Nursing.

At the Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department students study:

    • Basic principles of Medical Prescription;

    • Pharmacokinetics of drugs;

    • Pharmacodynamics of drugs;

    • Basic treatment regimens and dosage of drugs;

    • Side effects and contraindications;

    • Basic principles of individual pharmacotherapy.

Training is provided in three languages:

    • Ukrainian,

    • Russian,

    • English.

The practical classes

In optimizing and modernizing the educational process have been using virtual whiteboards and video systems during the workshops and during lectures. At the Department was established the base of training videos of pharmacology (over 300 titles). Each lecture of Pharmacology is illustrated by video , it improves students learning.

The practical classes on the faculty of foreign student

For a better mastery of practical skills the lines of practical skills – matricules are used. It helps to improve the skills of writing of prescriptions for a physician or a pharmacist.

Teachers of the department published 7 books of Pharmacology, 12 tutorials, 3 reference books, 7 methodological recommendations, over 80 educational and methodical articles.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Scientists of the department have made a significant contribution to the pharmacology and hepatology, which became the basis for creating your own original direction of sciences - Ukrainian school of pharmacologists-hepatologists.

The scientists of the department:

    • study the methods of prevention and treatment of the toxic liver disease,

    • perform the search of effective means for correcting of violations of nitric oxide system in the pathogenesis of various diseases,

    • evaluate the peculiarities of microsomal enzyme system of hepatocytes at the liver damage by xenobiotics, including medical drugs.

Scientific research resulted in 11 doctoral and 48 master's theses, 13 books, 7 books of Pharmacology, 12 textbooks, 3 reference books, 6 popular science brochures, 7 guidelines, more than 450 journal articles and over 800 other publications .

INSTITUTE OF CURATORS

At the Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Department the cultural educational work has a great value. It contributes the formation of spirituality, humanism, patriotism, artistic, aesthetic and physical culture, and supports the love for historical heritage of Ukraine.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY COURSE

Since 1998 the clinical base of clinical pharmacology course is Ternopil urban municipal hospital №3. Course is headed by prof. Shmanko V.V. Courses teacher pay much attention to medical work. Profile of their medical practice is quite wide, particularly conducting reception at polyclinic, advice and supervised patient of therapeutic profile, department of rehabilitation patients and patients of neurological profile, orthopedic department, and day care AITD hospitals. They participate in clinical circumvention, consultation, and clinical pathological conferences.
